What we do

OldPhotosLab is a small, focused tool for family photographs. It repairs physical damage, reduces fading and blur, and colorizes black-and-white pictures. It is built for people working through a shoebox of prints — not for forensic reconstruction or archival publication.

How the restoration works

The models treat damage and content as different problems. Scratches, creases, tears and stains are masked out and rebuilt from the texture around them. Fading and colour casts are corrected from the scan's own brightness distribution rather than replaced with a new image. Sharpening and full-frame reconstruction run as separate modes of the same model, because a soft face and a missing face need different treatment. Every tool runs on GPT Image 2.5 Flare, so results stay consistent from one photo to the next.

Colorization is estimated in regions. Skin, clothing, sky and background are coloured separately and then blended, which is why faces do not come out as one flat tone. The result is a plausible reconstruction of what the photo probably looked like, not a documented record.

What we will not do

  • We do not add people who were not in the original photograph.
  • We do not claim that a colorized photo is historically accurate. Uniforms, signage and specific product colours are estimates.
  • We do not present a restored file as an archival original. Keep the untouched scan.

How we handle your photos

Your uploads and results are stored in your account so you can download them again. We do not use customer photos to train models. You can delete creations from your workspace, and our privacy policy explains the processors involved.
